Alabama’s Amended Safer at Home Order
Effective: July 16, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. | Updated Expiration August 31, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.
Governor Kay Ivey on Thursday issued her seventeenth supplemental emergency proclamation containing an amended Safer at Home Order that includes a statewide mask requirement. Individuals will be required to wear a mask or other facial covering when in public and in close contact with other people, as described in the order. This amended order extends until Friday, October 2, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.

Amendment Inclusion
Educational institutions. Effective June 1, 2020, all schools, public and private—
including elementary, secondary, postsecondary, technical, and specialty schools, and colleges
and universities—shall comply with the following rules:
- Social distancing. Schools shall take reasonable steps, where practicable, to maintain six feet of separation between persons of different households.
- Sanitation. Schools shall take reasonable steps, where practicable, to regularly disinfect frequently used items and surfaces.
- Facial coverings. Each employee, and each student in second grade or above, shall, to the greatest extent practicable, wear a mask or other facial covering that covers his or her nostrils and mouth at all times when in regular interaction within six feet of a person from a different household.
In addition to complying with the requirements of this paragraph, educational institutions are strongly encouraged to adopt and implement additional measures to supplement these minimum rules.
