Miss. Code Ann. § 37-3-82 established the Mississippi Community Oriented Policing Services in Schools (MCOPS) Grant program for the utilization of School Resource Officers (SRO) within the K-12 education system. The grant allocates a minimum of $10,000 per officer that must be matched from local funds on a 50/50 matching basis.

The grant allocates a minimum of $10,000 per officer that must be matched from local funds on a 50/50 matching basis.
To properly match the $10,000 granted to provide the SROs, districts are required to utilize $10,000 of their own local funds to purchase safety equipment that may enhance the safety and security of their schools.
The matching funds must be used on safety equipment for the SRO(s) or the school to which the officer is assigned.
Items that could be considered safety equipment include but are not limited to:
• Camera systems
• Door Lock systems
• Other Safety equipment
